Language barriers may have been the main reason behind Asian music obscurity for too many years. But that never stopped Asian musicians from recording their amazing music. From Rock to Disco, they’ve done it all but without the worldwide success of their western counterparts. The recordings are, stored away in some dusty warehouse of old Asian uncle’s shelves.
But a guy called Munir is now to the rescue of these forgotten dusty records. A mastermind behind Midnight Runners who has been putting out international disco-funk record releases through the likes of Omega Supreme Records, Groove College, and Hobo Camp. After releasing his own Edit Mix of Indonesian classic disco called “Nusantara Tropic Disco” with many appraisals, Munir set himself to translate Asian obscure music into a fathomable and an enjoyable form.
The Result, DISCOVER EDIT 001 : EASTERN SUN, a compilation of obscure records from Tajikistan to South Korea. Edited, remixed and recontextualized for a modern dance floor, so that these old dusty grooves can be enjoyed anywhere in the world..

His vault is the envy of many collectors, well stocked with soul rarities, all thanks to his uncle, who often brought back precious loot from his travels as a sailor. On an international scale, he has garnered support from the likes of Stamp The Wax, Boiler Room, Dopeness Galore and many others.
Growing up in the capital of Indonesia’s West Java province greatly shaped the producer’s musical influence - the advent of bootlegging culture reached its height in the eighties, where the ripping of obscure pop, funk, and boogie from vinyl to cassettes exploded throughout the city. Munir continues this legacy in his technique by actively sampling cassette tapes, to retain the crackling bootleg authenticity, and sharing that bit of aural culture through his work - some things can never grow old.
